How Does It Work?
W|ECO arrowboards use Wanco’s new LED lamps. Exclusive to Wanco, each LED consumes 85% less power than those used on traditional arrowboards.
At full brightness, each lamp uses only 30 milliamps. When fully dimmed, each lamp uses only 3 milliamps. This reduction in power consumption allows W|ECO models to use smaller batteries while displaying the same brightness.
Traditional arrowboard batteries can leak and spill their contents onto the ground, polluting the land and contaminating ground water. W|ECO Technology is better for the environment because it allows the use of smaller, sealed batteries.
W|ECO batteries contain 80% less lead, and they will not leak or spill. They are maintenance-free, which means they never need to be opened. The chances of harming the environment with a W|ECO arrowboard are greatly diminished, when compared with traditional arrowboards.
During the manufacturing process, powder coating emits near-zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — a great improvement over paint — and nearly all over-spray is reclaimed and reused. Additionally, almost every component of a W|ECO arrowboard can be recycled.
Ultimate Efficiency
The solar panel charges the batteries; the batteries power the arrowboard. But with less power draw and smaller batteries, you might be wondering just how efficient a W|ECO arrowboard can be.
A test unit outside the Wanco factory has been running continuously, without intervention, since December 2006. Try this with a typical solar arrowboard and we think you'll be disappointed.
Most important, however, W|ECO arrowboards provide superior visibility and legibility.
Durability and Longevity
In addition to environmental and performance features, W|ECO arrowboards are extremely durable and dependable. They include fully welded all-steel frames, replaceable bolt-on steel fenders (on trailer-mount models), and a lockable welded steel battery box. As opposed to plastic, the weight of Wanco’s steel components keeps W|ECO arrowboards rooted in place.
The arrowboard display panel is constructed of aluminum, which ensures durability but reduces weight. This keeps the arrowboard from being top-heavy.
For transport and storage, Wanco arrowboards feature a unique design that extends the equipment’s useful lifespan: in the travel position, the board is fully supported without rear braces. As a result, it never strikes another surface during transport. This innovation virtually eliminates the damage that other arrowboards endure.
