The Wanco Work Zone Location Marker is an electronic beacon in the form of a standard channelizer drum. Commonly deployed at the start and end of a work zone, this ITS traffic barrel transmits the work zone’s exact coordinates to help DOTs populate 511 systems and third-party navigation apps, putting safety information directly on a drivers’ dashboard.
The Wanco Work Zone Location Marker bridges the gap between physical safety and digital intelligence. By transforming the traditional traffic barrel into an IoT-connected device, it does more than just redirect traffic — it powers the modern roadway.
Deployed in a work zone, the Marker Barrel sends its geolocation, operating status and other system data to the Wanco Fleet Manager service via cellular modem. In Fleet Manager, you can view multiple markers and configure their relative locations as the start or end of the work zone, or as generic points along the way.
The Marker Barrel is portable, nonintrusive and needs no permanent installation, external wiring or other infrastructure. Built with rugged, durable components, the system ensures your asset is visible in Fleet Manager.
Power is provided by Wanco’s eco‑friendly, maintenance-free W|ECO battery, while an automated solar-based charging system ensures continuous reliable operation. With sufficient sunlight, the device can run indefinitely without intervention.
